What Is The Sales Tax Cost For Registering A Rv Motorhome In Nc

Topic: North Carolina MH Taxes
Posted By: Capt Fred on 07/31/03 08:07am As a resident of a City in Eastern NC, all my vehicles are subject to both an initial sales tax, so a yearly personal property tax that is ane% (same as our home). The county (and city) get the vehicle registration records from the land and transport yous a bill based on Zilch volume values. And so if you buy a MH for 200k, you lot get to pay a sales tax of $6000 and property tax $2000 (every year). And add to this the same for the toad. Any way around this?

Posted Past: P3TC on 07/31/03 08:37am As a beau 'Tarheel' (transplant) I share your burden.....other than moving (temporarily) and registering it in a tax advantage state...the only other thing would be to obtain a dealer license and pay no taxes...but that can be circuitous and could be expensive if yous are caught 'not dealing' to avoid taxes.

Posted By: Jon West. on 07/31/03 10:17am Capt, It is like shooting fish in a barrel to feel frustrated, simply so y'all may brand a better determination virtually how will accost this result you should wait at your overall tax situation relative to other states or locations y'all might consider.

As a resident of a neighboring state I could gripe about our 9.25% sales tax, merely when I offset that with the fact we accept no income revenue enhancement and depression property taxes and fees I don't experience besides bad.

I experience a whole lot meliorate when I compare what I pay now compared to the raping I got be living in NY.

It's all a matter of perspective.

I went thru that same worry concluding wintertime when I bought a coach. Checked out Florida registration etc. It all seems to launder out about the same. I registered in NC,I pay the taxes and don't have the outside hassles to worry about with another state.

No sales taxation. $250 a year for tags. You can do it over the phone.

It's not illegal to own a visitor in Montana and it'southward not illegal for the same visitor to own a RV.
Information technology is llegal to drive the RV any place yous want any time you want to.
If some check'south the title, your name is not on it. I can not see how y'all tin can get in problem.
You tin can also renew each yr via post and get the new tags.

I feel your pain but the sales tax will not be that loftier, there is a cap. Although my MH did not cost 200k I only paid about $600 is sales tax. The property taxation will go downward each year also and information technology is hard to shell the $20 registration fee.

If you desire to play you have to pay.

Posted By: mbard on 08/28/03 09:29am Aren't NC sales taxes on Motorhomes subject area to the $1200 cap on motor vehicles?
If y'all keep the motor home out of NC for more than half-dozen months/year, why non register it in a more convenient state that you accept a physical location? It may be cheaper to hire a storage address or course a belongings company.

NC has personal property taxation, so you get a bill every year and notwithstanding accept to purchase tag's. not good.

At that place is no "Sales Tax" per se on vehicles sold in NC but there is a "Highway Use Tax". This Highway Utilize Taxation is a 3% taxation versus the half dozen 1/two% land sales tax and it is charged past the NCDMV when registering a vehicle for the first time. It as well has a $1,500 limit for motorhomes under 26,000 lb. GVWR and a $1,000 limit for motorhomes over 26,000 lb. GVWR. I know this sounds backwards but I just verified it with the local DMV office here in the Winston-Salem area and that's what they told me even when I questioned information technology. They also told me that the vehicle value used for this iii% tax is based on the buy price if the vehicle was bought from a dealer or the NCDMV book value if it was purchased from an individual. It also makes no divergence if the vehicle was purchased in NC or out.

Regarding the personal belongings tax, yous are correct in that this tax is charged by your municipality/county at the same rate every bit your firm and other cars, just don't exist afraid to appeal their assessment of the value of your motorhome since most all of the "book values" that I've seen are college than what these vehicles really sell for. If you make a reasonable instance, they will probably reduce it. I did that afterwards I bought my '97 Monaco DP last year and I got them to reduce their assessed tax value past over $ten,000 with simply a couple of phone calls.

Purchased new MH in Hope Mills about three months agone and paid an NC cap of $1500.00 route employ tax. Received showtime personal holding revenue enhancement statement for 638.xi on a $92.3K MH. What realy ticked me is we only paid 82K for the MH merely the county looks at the base of operations price plus options oh yea and they included the road tax, My county holding tax is .68 on the 100. Side by side year they go by the Aught book and so the bill will be about cut in one-half.
Some thought on the inc's holding Co's or some of the other tax avoidance deals. Several years ago alot of folk were hiding their boats in Delaware under these then chosen phoney Companies and most got disrepair.
Have seen a few Military men loose their buts playing the Vehical Registration game over the years. Every bit just well-nigh every state is strapped for cash wouldn't exist surprised to see a crack down.
